Overview

 

The Piping Design Lead is responsible for the overall project piping operation; plans, coordinates, directs and manages design and work activities of designers to ensure quality and consistency of work process and design across teams. Prepares design criteria and estimate for projects consistent with best practice, client requirements, specifications and conformance to Codes and Standards.

 

Responsibilities

  • Regularly meets with client to ensure expectations are being met; ensure design activities comply with all company and contract requirements and support the overall construction schedule.
  • Make a variety of decisions regarding staffing and staffing requirements including but not limited to: budgeting, hiring, scheduling, planning, and measuring performance.
  • Ensure team understands and adheres to all Cajun safety best practices as well as client’s safety requirements, and consistently enforce these standards.
  • Coordinate with Project Management and client on any inconsistencies in communication.
  • Recommend modifications and changes for design improvement and simplification; assembles revisions to pipe specifications and standard design details.
  • Work with client to receive necessary documents and drawing files as well as drawing, line, list, and specialty piping item numbers.
  • Initiate estimates and change order requests, review and approve expense reports, develop and distribute progress reports.
  • Perform additional assignments per management’s direction.

 

Qualifications

 

Physical

  • Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs.
  • Hearing and comprehension is necessary for giving and receiving directions.
  • Will need to perform sedentary to heavy work.
  • Will operate office equipment of all types.
  • Climb and maintain balance on steel/wood framework, stairs, ladders and scaffolds.
  • Required to use hands to grasp, lift, handle, carry or feel objects on a frequent basis.
  • Position may require prolonged bending/twisting, walking, reaching overhead, squatting, sitting or standing and lifting.
  • Must be able to manipulate and traverse uneven terrain, ladders, and multi-floor buildings with no elevator.
  • Must be able to walk on uneven surfaces, muddy conditions, loose rock, loose/soft sand, etc.
  • Will be exposed to adverse weather conditions (Heat, Cold, Rain, Etc.).
  • Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.

Mental

  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively with management/ supervision.
  • Talking and reading & writing comprehension is necessary for giving and receiving directions to perform work and/or safety policy.
  • Knowledge and ability to use and comprehend advanced math and complete calculations.
  • Work at various tempos; ability to maintain concentration amid distractions.
  • Decision making and problem solving skills necessary.
  • Detail-oriented; must be able to remember, examine, and observe details.
