Job Summary:
Cajun Industries, LLC is seeking an experienced and proven leader in the field of Construction Law to join our executive team as General Corporate Counsel. This pivotal role involves advising the executive management team on all legal aspects of the company’s construction and engineering businesses. Responsibilities include supporting preconstruction efforts, contract review and negotiations, ongoing project management (including procurement, claims, and litigation), and serving as a legal resource in risk management and compliance. The General Corporate Counsel will assist, investigate, research and represent the Company to resolve legal matters and work with a variety of departments including business development, estimating, operations, equipment, human resources, safety, insurance, and finance.

 

Key Responsibilities:
• Provide comprehensive legal advice to ensure the company operates within the law.
• Oversee all legal matters of the business, acting as the legal representative.
• Advise the executive committee on new laws, existing laws, rules, and legal rights impacting the organization.
• Maintain organized records of all legal documents and proceedings.
• Support preconstruction functions by reviewing, drafting, and negotiating construction-related contracts.
• Prepare prime contract legal reviews for major procurements.
• Manage litigation, arbitration, and mediation processes, including discovery support.
• Support the executive committee with M&A opportunities and transactions.
• Evaluate and manage outside counsel as needed.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:
• Ensures Legal Department meets organizational expectations and fulfill their required job duties and responsibilities.
• Lead a high-performance Legal Team through hiring, motivating, coaching, evaluating, rewarding, accountability and resource management.

 

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
• Sound judgment and the ability to evaluate options fairly
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Excellent project management skills, including effectively multitask, strong analytical skills, and customer service focus.
• Broad legal subject matter expertise and strong business acumen.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Strong supervisory and leadership skills.

 

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree (in technical field a plus), Juris Doctorate, and a state bar admission required.
• Minimum of fifteen years of direct experience in the practice of Construction Law.
• Demonstrated complementary experience in fields of practice including General Corporate Law, Mergers & Acquisitions, Maritime Law, Energy and Natural Resources, Government Contracts, etc.
• Ten years of supervisory experience required.
