Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Ensures Business Unit Managers of Safety meet organizational expectations and fulfill their required job duties and responsibilities
  • Leads a high-performance safety team through hiring, motivating, coaching, evaluating, rewarding, accountability, and resource management

Duties/ Responsibilities:

  • Leads by example and embodies Cajun’s safety culture as the top Safety Professional within the company
  • Leads development and monitoring of corporate health and safety program based on state and federal requirements, client requirements, company goals, and best safety practices
  • Collaborates with Executive and Senior Management to implement safety policies and procedures
  • Ensure safety manuals, incident reporting processes, investigation procedures, emergency response, and other similar processes are best of class and executed appropriately
  • Serves as voting member of Cajun’s Risk Management Committee
  • Leads the Safety Roundtable for the company and ensures the Safety Roundtable is effective and provides maximum value
  • Oversees preparation of and responses to customer and governmental agency reporting requirements
  • Oversees Cajun’s corporate “Good Catch” Recognition Program
  • Oversees the Drug and Alcohol program in accordance with corporate policies and practices
  • Lead investigations and incident reviews, analyze direct and root causes, collaborate with leadership to develop prevention strategies, and communicate these strategies to relevant stakeholders
  • Monitor internal and external safety auditing programs and ensure corrective actions are executed timely and in appropriate manner
  • Monitor all work-related injuries and verify return-to-work and light-duty programs are completed correctly
  • Works closely with the Risk and Insurance team to provide support with Worker’s Compensation claims in accordance with company and state policies
  • Collaborates with the Training Department to deliver effective safety training, required certifications, and incident prevention programs
  • Collaborates with the business development and marketing team on related presentations and marketing activities including pre-qualification questionnaires
  • Ensures safety compliance on ISNet, Avetta, PEC, and other similar systems
  • Measures environmental, health and safety metrics and provides timely analytics using internal tools
  • Collaborates with other safety professionals nationwide to monitor trends and provide recommendations to management as needed
  • Performs as author of publications for Company communications
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety and Health or construction field, plus seven years’ experience administering a comparable Safety and Environmental program, or an equivalent combination of education and experience required
  • Four or more years of supervisory experience required
  • Multi-site or Mega Site safety management experience
  • Experience in industrial and/or heavy construction environment required
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent project management skills, including effective multi-tasking skills, strong analytical skills, and customer service focus
  • Excellent computer skills and ability to learn company systems and processes
  • Strong business acumen
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills

Working conditions

  • Position may require working in all weather conditions
  • High-noise environment
  • Working in plant operating conditions, including possible emergency situations; may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals
  • Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts; may be working around construction machinery

Physical requirement:

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Subject to repetitive use of hands/arms, and legs
  • Hand/eye coordination
  • Hearing and comprehension is necessary for giving and receiving directions to perform work and/or safety policy
  • Will be performing tasks involving physical labor on construction projects
  • Climb and maintain balance on steel/wood framework, stairs, ladders and scaffolds
  • Required to use hands to grasp, lift, handle, carry or feel objects on a frequent basis
  • Position may require prolonged bending/twisting, walking, crawling, kneeling, reaching overhead, squatting, pushing /pulling, or standing and lifting
  • May assist other craft workers as needed 
  • Must be able to manipulate and traverse uneven terrain, ladders, multi-floor buildings with no elevator, pipe bands, vessels and structures

Mental requirements

  • Must have the ability to talk and communicate effectively with management/ supervision
  • Will need to be able to perform sedentary to heavy work
  • Work at various tempos, and concentrate amid distractions
  • Decision making skills necessary
  • Detail-oriented; must be able to remember, examine, and observe details
